Mr Eazi – Accra to Lagos Mixtape Review

The 11th of February was the official listening launch for afrobeats’ latest sensation Mr Eazi. An intimate setting. The RMG group set an acoustic session and rendition for the talented artist to perform music from his newly released Mixtape titled Accra To Lagos.

The acoustic session was hosted by none other than the very stunning and talented DJ and Producer DJ Cuppy. Cuppy is a talent that keeps on growing, the Nigerian DJ is usually seen djing across the globe, and often appearing on popular MTV show Uncommon Sense with the voice of the culture Charlemagne tha God. With a few London club residencies across her belt and mixes released, who better than one of Mr Eazi’s own squad members to host his big night!

Mr Eazi did not disappoint with his performance, the humble and very talented artist performed beautifully as he often sat on his stool singing his heart out. He charmed the crowd by performing acoustic songs from the mixtape but also included some of his classics, which went down a treat! The crowd were enticed and delighted by his voice and amazing songs. After his performance, DJ Cuppy asked him various questions which came from the audience. Mr Eazi answered all the questions with grace and laughter.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the name Mr Eazi should sound familiar. His popularity as an artist grew tremendously with songs like Dance For Me featuring Eugy, Skin Tight featuring Efya and Hold Up. His videos consistently receive millions of views with Hold Up currently receiving over 6 million views, which is testament to his artistry and originality.

Following on from those successes, we are excited for his latest project Accra To Lagos, a title that derives from his association and affiliation with both countries. One being his country of birth and the other the country that raised him.

Accra To Lagos is a continuation from his success and does not disappoint! The mixtape which was released exclusively to Apple music on the 11th is a vibe! It features various prominent artists and producers who are monsters in the afro-beats industry. Names such as Maleek berry, Wizkid, Olamide, Tekno, Mugeez R2beez, D-tines, Legendury Beatz, Masterkraft and our very own DJ Cuppy who features on the song Fight.

Accra To Lagos combines the sounds, rhythms, energies and styles of both cities which are heavily influential currently across afro-beats. Mr Eazi successfully masters the two differences simultaneously by giving his listeners a variation of both his staple romantic and classy renditions with an African twist, but also showing variety by including those heavy hip and aggressive type of beats and lyrics.

This mixtape has variety, each song has a story and meaning behind it. From relationships to life and showing appreciation and gratitude to his family. Lyrically alluring, there is a lot of truth, advice, playfulness and it wouldn’t be a Mr Eazi song if there wasn’t some sort of teasing or playful flirtation. Overall a great body of work from Mr Eazi! It’s a great listen and vibe by the talent who will be touring 69 cities to perform songs from his mixtape.

The first video released from Accra To Lagos is Leg Over which features background vocals from accomplished and very successful artist Wizkid, it also features producer extraordinaire Maleek Berry and a cameo from Congolese comedian Eddie Kadi, who is famed for his funny comedic appearances in music videos.

The beat is tantalising, enticing, romantic and soft. Almost like a romantic version of an afro-beats song. Lyrically playful and very flirtations with euphemism that are flirtatiously sexual.

Afro-beats is all about rhythms and dancing. The video was choreographed by Olu Alatise and features her beautiful dancers Project G Dance. Within 24 hours, Leg Over already has over 1 million views on YouTube!

We look forward to seeing more visuals from Accra to Lagos! Congratulations to Mr Eazi for his amazing Mixtape!
